These goals, we plan them with the best hopes, radiating with optimism and a desire to commit to them until December the 31st. For this year though it’s going to be different. Tip 1 : Make your goals specific, general goals never work
We should not be blamed for making a big goals in the new year, but we find that most of these goals are general. Such as : Going to the gym – Touring Asia – Learning Spanish… These are amazing aspirations but they lack specificity. the more narrow you make your goals the easier you set up a plan to reach them. So here are some correct examples :
– Going to the gym to gain muscle mass, I want to reach 75 Kg by the month of august.
-Spending 1 week in Thailand (Phuket) and 1 weak in The Philippines (Palawan) in the month of June.
-Learning Spanish grammar in February, conjugation in March, adjectives in April…
It’s is always better to include the S.M.A.R.T aspects in your goals or at least 2 or three of them, just never make them general.
Tip 2 : Set quarterly and half-yearly goals
Here is a beginners’ tip : You are going to stick to your new year’s resolution if you make quarterly and half-yearly goals. They simply will appear smaller and easier to achieve. Do it as follows :
From the end of | Until the end of | |
Goal 1 | December 2024 | March 2025 |
Goal 2 | March 2025 | June 2025 |
Goal 3 | June 2025 | September 2025 |
Gold 4 | September 2025 | December 2025 |
In case you are feeling a bit more ambitious and motivated then make them half yearly.
Tip 3 : Track your progress and setbacks
Monitoring your progress visually is a great tip that I have been following, whether through a manual or a digital journal, an application on your phone, or a chart, it provides a motivation boost . It enhances positive actions and makes you more likely to carry on your efforts towards the achievement of your goals. The gesture of tracking itself builds a sense of accountability, avoiding you from slacking off. The act of tracking your progress enforces greater self-awareness. You turn out to be more responsive to your manners, habits and triggers. This kind of awareness supports you to make wise decisions and better come over challenges. Picking a tracking technique that suits your own style and goals is crucial to making it a simple and effective part of your 2025 journey.
Tip 4 : Adjust your goals during the year
This tip right here is something that I will absolutely be doing in 2025. I know that sometimes we get carried away by life and that might derive us from the track that is leading us towards the achievement of our goals. So we find ourselves in front of 2 choices :
-Abandoning the goal : Which is easy to do, but also it’s not something we want to do.
-Adjusting the goal : Still making it attainable, and that can be done whether by : 1. Changing the date or 2. Changing the nature of the goal. Here is an example :
Let’s say your goal is that you want to gain 20 Kg by the end of May. Fast forward to this month, it seems like you have only gained 10 Kg. What you can do is change the month from May to August. Don’t be hard on yourself, as long as you don’t give on your goal you should know that you are doing good enough.
Tip 5 : Learn from last year’s mistakes
Be honest and ask yourself : why did I not reach/give up on my New Year’s resolution last year? Was I distracted? was there someone in my life who was putting obstacles in my way? Did self-doubt thoughts get the best of me? or the way I set up my goals was flawed? Based on the answer you provide to yourself, you are going to find a way to not commit the same mistake again.
Let it be known that the secret to sticking to your New Year’s resolutions is not about perfection, it’s about continuous effort and self-descipline. Let’s all apply all of these tips in 2025 and really prove the saying “New Year New Me” and make it our year. Remember to grow at your own rhythm. Happy New Year!
